Money gained by removing Klamath dams

Let's save money and salmon.

One less toxic asset!

PRESS ROOM 2009

It's hard to argue with Berkshire subsidiary PacifiCorp's recent commitment to take out four Klamath River dams when the economics are so clear: re-licensing these dams could cost Berkshire shareholders $415 million, which may be hundreds of millions more than simply removing them. The dams are also responsible for dangerous toxic algae outbreaks and other water quality problems that make them a truly toxic asset.

PacifiCorp is now negotiating with struggling commercial fishermen, California's three largest Native Tribes, Oregon's largest Native Tribe, ranchers and farmers, and conservation groups to come up with a final dam removal agreement that works for everyone. The final agreement must protect water quality, stay consistent with existing laws and regulations and use the best available science.

The Klamath is truly one of America's great rivers. Berkshire shareholders have the opportunity to save this national legacy, and make a sound business decision. Encourage PacifiCorp to close the deal and open the river!
